The energy at last week's Tech-Xpo 2025, hosted by SETsquared at Bristol's Engine Shed, was undeniable. Billed as a 'celebration of the best of Bristol's incredible startup innovation and talent', the evening brought together a dynamic group of founders, investors, and ecosystem builders.

Out of 14 impressive startups, 6 gave high-impact 60-second pitches. A huge congratulations to Abigail Simpson, founder of Evex Digital Health, for winning the best presentation!

It was a pleasure to connect with so many brilliant people over beer and canapés (thanks VWV!), including:

Founders: Michael Calver (Amutri), Artemis Fragkopoulos (Slant Mobility), Martin Cryan (Plasmaris), Dan Hardy (Microsol Science), Duniya Moore & Ian Guerit (illumo digital), Arunava Mitra (Semtronics), Jessica Lloyd (Able2Book), Francesco Raffaelli (KETS Quantum Security) and Laura Gemmel (Taught By Humans).

Investors & organisers: Dr Nic Pillow (Blackfinch Ventures) and the fantastic SETsquared team: Tamsin Denbigh , Caroline Thompson , and Richard Adlington.

What set this event apart was the format. The short, standing-room-only presentations avoided the typical keynote lull and sustained a vibrant atmosphere throughout. It truly felt like a community pulling in the same direction.

As a video producer for the science and tech sector, this energy is exactly what we aim to capture and get on screen for our clients. And it was great to discuss with founders how hero films, case studies, and brand stories can showcase their revolutionary work.

But more than anything, it was fantastic to be immersed in what is clearly a thriving startup ecosystem here in the South West.
