Six tips for Training Films and Training Modules

Six tips for Training Films and Training Modules

1. Make your case. Video training often replaces training in person, so when you're budgeting, calculate how many staff hours you’ll save and how many more people you’ll reach.

2. Tailor to budget. Training films can be anything from talking heads cut to slides, to complex shoots with multiple crew and actors. An early conversation with your video production team will give you a quick idea of how to get the most value on screen from your funding pot.

3. Consider talent. Whilst experts add authority to a film, they may not always be the best people to host it. A professional voice-over can increase production value and help keep the audience engaged. For larger budgets, you may also consider a corporate presenter.

4. Chapterise. Deliver training in manageable chunks to help with absorption and retention. A chapter overview at the beginning of the film and title boards in between sections are important for viewers to navigate lessons and mark progress.

5. Design for shelf-life. If current guidance changes, make sure you can easily update and amend your film. Ideally, your video company should give you the copyright to all specially commissioned material and project folders.

6. Promote your brand. Consider making your videos or sub-clips publicly available using your logo as a watermark. Training videos can be much more than a tool for your target viewers; by offering educational value they showcase your pedigree to an international audience.
