Six tips for Explainer Videos and Infographic Animations

1. Be concise. An explainer is an animated shorthand for your specialism, whether that’s an area of research, a service, a facility or a product. It’s not designed to replace detailed print material.

2. Keep it short. 2 to 3 minutes is a good length. Any longer and you should consider splitting it into several films.

3. Script sparingly. We can take your key points and weave them into a narrative. Typical explainers are around 200 words. Avoid wall to wall script. You need space to let the animation breathe and the pictures do the talking.

4. Link away! If you’ve seen animations or illustrations you like do share them with us. Tell us what you think works well, and what doesn’t, so we can tailor your explainer accordingly.

5. Style it out. Once we’ve agreed a budget with you, our animator will produce initial style frames for your approval, followed by several proof versions of the film. Be sure to feedback at every stage to keep finance and schedule on track.

6. Make it sound. Audio makes a real difference to the quality of an explainer, whether it’s a professional voiceover, background music track or sound effects to highlight action.

A great explainer film can save hours of communication with your audience by getting straight to the heart of what you do. Please get in touch to talk through the possibilities.
