Fast edit Isambard-AI
5th December 2024
Client:
Bristol Centre for Supercomputing
Brief:
To film the installation of Isambard-AI, the UK's fastest supercomputer. Also to edit fast turnaround short videos on location for social media.
How we did it:
When approached by University of Bristol's Centre for Supercomputing to supply a crew to film the installation of their new supercomputer, we immediately thought here was a chance to do something different.
Unlike a typical filming day when the crew is hard at it the whole time, this shoot promised to be stop / start. The installation crew had to wait for perfect conditions to crane the four massive computer containers into place.
This gave the guys time to get creative with the visuals (drone, long lens, gimbal and some neat stills-based hyperlapses) and also to crack on with the editing in the suite we set up in the nearby National Composites Centre. NCC are also a client. Check out our launch film for their multi million pound composite laying robot.
While cameraman / drone operator Dion braved the snow on day one and sweltering sun on day two, editor Nick beavered away inside cutting daily round ups, delivered as the sun set. Nick also took some extra behind the scenes stills for even more content.
The final film, above, was polished back in the office and did great business on socials for all involved. We're booked in for the next install.
Client feedback:
The Beeston team understood our brief entirely. The pace of the film perfectly captured the pace of the groundbreaking project that’s underway. When published, the video outperformed all other content on our social channels within the last 12 months.
